A common misconception spread that all V6-engined 916s have additional air intakes on the lower bumper, either for the oil-cooler or the Turbo’s intercooler.
But there is one version from one generation that lacks those intakes. It is Spider 3.0 V6 12V Phase1. It’s oil cooler is in front of the radiator.
Interestingly even same generation GTV 2.0 V6 TB has them for intercooler and oil cooler and later every Phase2 V6 will have them also, mostly right one for oil cooler and left one blanked.

Here are just 12 examples of this phenomenon, pictures of the front of the car with visible lower bumper (and without additional intakes) and either an engine or a badge.

I wish I could show a proof from, for example a brochure but… out of all the Spider’s Phase1 brochures not one shows any V6 engined car nor even a V6 engine.
